Multimedia applications require virtually zero-outage connectivity whilst being strictly delay-limited, prone to interference and bandwidthhungry. Among a gamut of technical solutions,cognitive radios and networks have long beenperceived as a catalyst of above requirements byfacilitating efficient primary/secondarymultimedia user coexistence. The degree ofcoexistence heavily depends on the degree ofcognition, where simple opportunistic radios aregenerally inferior to more complex cognitivedevices able to draw intelligent and anticipateddecisions. Said complexity, however, currentlyprevents any viable deployment of trulycognitive networks. We thus introduce anemerging and largely unexplored concept ofdocitive networks where nodes essentially teachother nodes with the prime aim to reducecognitive complexity, speed up the learningprocess and draw better and more reliabledecisions, in order to support next, as well asbeyond-next generation multimedia applications.
